Students can participate in an internship
by enrolling for either Soc 398 or Soc 498, and they can earn up to a
maximum of 8 units of elective credit for their sociology degree. To be
approved for an internship, students should have completed at
least three upper division courses in sociology, arrange a work
agreement with an approved agency, and be willing to commit the
equivalent of 30 hours of agency work for each unit of credit they
expect to receive. The intern must also meet with the Department's
Internship Coordinator during the quarter, and submit a journal of
activities and a short final paper illustrating how sociological
concepts gleaned from their sociology courses have been applied to the
work setting. A list of approved agencies, as well as other program
details, can be obtained from the Coordinator.
