Program Coordinator: Evelyn Ortiz Winchester Location: Biological Science Bldg, Room 137 | Phone: (323) 343-3817 The Office for the Advancement of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education (STEM-Ed), was created to support and assist existing STEM-Ed programs at CSULA in their effort to attract, retain and graduate students interested in STEM fields. The STEM-Ed office is administered by the Office of Graduate Studies and Research and therefore provides additional information on graduate and pre-doctoral level programs, fellowships, and Ph.D. programs, and also provides student data collection and data retrieval for STEM-Ed departments; monitoring and recording of program trends and success rates; and an inter-program system of communicating information via newsletters and quarterly meetings. Other services provided by the office include a resource library of scholarships, internships, summer programs, and research opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students and part- and full-time faculty in STEM-Ed fields, as well as other fields of study. Categories of STEM-Ed ProgramsThe following categories include all STEM-Ed programs offered at Cal State L.A. which focus on science, engineering and mathematics fields of study. Pre-Collegiate ProgramsThese programs target middle and high school students in order to encourage them to pursue college-bound careers. Many programs offer summer workshops or activities, as well as academic year events both off and on campus. For details, please refer to the specific program and contact person listed. Community College Transfer to Cal State L.A. ProgramsMany programs at Cal State L.A. offer unique opportunities for community college students to begin their university careers with comfortable ease while still attending their community college or to make an easy transition to a four-year university setting upon graduating from the community college. ProgramsAll Cal State L.A. programs listed here are sponsored by various agencies and offer incomparable opportunities for students to acquire greater experiences which augment their fields of study. They are tailored to enhance each student's successful transition to either graduate or professional studies, or for professional careers in their field. Teacher PreparationCal State L.A. is well known for their teacher preparation curricula. As the name included in the title "STEM-Ed" implies, education and preparation for individuals who want to pursue a teaching career have greater opportunities for support and instruction in the following programs listed.
