Student Telephone-Assisted Registration

Touch-Tone Telephone Information and other Registration Tips
To provide optimum access for all students, STAR registration is restricted to specific numbers of students within classifications each day. The "Pin Notification and Registration Information," which will be mailed to you, includes the dates for which you have been given access to STAR. You may register only on these dates. For best course selection, you must register on the first day you are eligible. If you do not receive your PIN Notification and Registration Information contact Enrollment Services, Administration 146.

Here are the steps you must follow for a successful registration. Remember to follow them precisely to avoid registration problems.

  • Organize your registration materials and complete the STAR Worksheet. Keep this Schedule of Classes handy for easy reference. Make notes-or highlight or underline important sections-if that makes it easier for you.
  • Obtain "authorization" or "permission" from the appropriate department/division and/or instructor to register in any restricted or closed course section.
  • Be prepared with alternate course selections in case your first choice courses are not available.
  • Clear any registration holds you have before your assigned STAR registration dates. STAR will not allow you to register if you have a registration hold.
  • Pay your fees at least three working days before your scheduled STAR registration date. STAR cannot allow you access to register any sooner.
  • You must use a Touch-Tone phone to call STAR. (Touch-Tone phones make a tone sound when a key is pressed.) Not all push-button phones are Touch-Tone. Using a programmable phone, which uses the # (pound) or * (star) key in programming, may cause you problems in gaining access to STAR.
  • STAR will check your residence status and registration fee payment to determine the maximum number of units for which you may register.
  • Corequisite courses (courses that require that you enroll concurrently in another course section, e.g., lecture plus activity or lecture plus lab, etc.) are identified with footnotes in this schedule. Because they have separate call numbers, you must add each corequisite separately, or your original request will automatically be dropped from your schedule.
  • If you make a mistake-or forget where you are while entering information in STAR-don't hang up! Press * (star), then # (pound), and STAR will repeat the last spoken message.
  • Remember that the STAR (223-2570) and Help Line (223-3497) phone numbers are NOT on-campus numbers. You must dial the entire number (not just the last four digits) to reach them. If you call from an area code other than 323, you must dial the 1-323 area code, then the rest of the number.
