Services or
Activities: To assist survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and
child abuse. Volunteers provide
multicultural and multilingual support for women and their families at the
shelters as well as hotline callers. Opportunities
include children’s program, tutoring and academic assistance program, sexual
assault program, fundraising, outreach, special events, newsletter and
administrative supports.
Ages and ethnicity
of those served: Women and children of all ages and ethnicity
Length of minimum
commitment: 1 year, 10 hours per month
Hours per week: Flexible.
Available evening and weekend hours
Formal Training Program: We provide a 40-hour training that covers domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault, family law, immigration law, criminal law, parenting, peer counseling cultural sensitivity, etc.
Personal qualities of volunteers: Experience in and enjoy working with women and children of all ages. Committed to eliminating family violence, including spousal and child abuse and sexual assault.
Required skills/qualities: Cultural Sensitivity
Direct supervision: Depending on position. Volunteers should be able to work independently after the training.
