The Department of Psychology
PSI CHI REPORT
Psi Chi and the Psychology Association held its last meeting of the Winter Quarter to complete plans for Spring Quarter activities. As reminder, the schedule of meetings and events is posted on the Psi Chi Bulletin Board located next to the Peer Advisement Office. These activities are open to all members of Psi Chi and the Psychology Association.
Psi Chi was in the final stages of producing its major annual event, the Psi Chi Banquet, which was held on April 19th at Almansor Court. In addition to the banquet, Psi Chi will hold a bake sale, elections, a Memorial Day potluck, and a professional seminar during the quarter. Members are strongly encouraged to participate in all of the activities. Those who are unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts are also invited to contribute suggestions to members of the executive committee of the organization or in writing to the department offices where Psi Chi has a mailbox. All input is welcome.
The current schedule of meetings for the balance of the quarter is as follows: Thursday, April 24, at 3:30 p.m.; Thursday, May 15, at 3:30 p.m.; and Tuesday, May 20, at 3:30 p.m. The Bake Sale is scheduled for Thursday, May 1, commencing at 8 a.m. Psi Chi would like acknowledge Raymond Lim for his technical assistance during the last Bake Sale, as well as a special thanks to all of you who contributed your support by partaking of the wide selection of "goodies" being offered. For those unfamiliar with the Bake Sale event, in addition to a variety of doughnuts, muffins, and bagels (with our without cream cheese), coffee and juice are also on sale.
The Memorial Day Pot Luck will be held on Thursday, May 22, in the Psychology Department Library from noon until 2 p.m. Organizational meetings will be held just prior to the Pot Luck to finalize plans for the event. Those who are unable to attend the meetings, but are interested in participating (i.e., chowing down on some really good "free" eats for lunch) are welcome to attend this pre-holiday event. These potlucks are always informal and relaxed and offer a pleasant break in the day and an opportunity to socialize with other psychology majors as well as faculty members and department staff.
Organization elections will also take place on Thursday, May 22nd. All members of Psi Chi are eligible to vote and submit nominations for the executive committee. Nominations will be accepted commencing Thursday, May 1st and should be submitted to the Psi Chi Office in the Psychology Library, to the Psychology Department Office, or to the Peer Advisement Office. The final day to submit nominations will be May 15th. For those members who will not be on campus the day of the elections, arrangements can be made to complete an absentee ballot prior to May 22nd. Again, check the Psi Chi Board next to the Peer Advisement Office (KH C3062) for the schedule. Any questions should be directed to executive committee members (Joe Antonio, Pilar Vargas, Kathy Vartanian, or D. Lewis) or in writing via the department office. Remember, it's your participation which makes a difference!
