Educational Background

Introduction
I
teach a variety of classes focused on the analysis of behavior - both experimental and applied. These are part of the Department's Joint MS program in Applied Behavior Analysis. I am also the graduate advisor to students enrolled in this program.
Teaching Interests
F
or the majority of students taking my courses as part of a general psychology program, I hope to impart a clear understanding of the nature of psychology and behavior analysis in particular by clarifying the goals of each, and the means by which they go about reaching those goals. For students with a deeper interest in behavior analysis, my aim is to provide a complete and scholarly presentation of the principles and applications of behavior analysis. My hope is that in conjunction with the courses these students take in applied behavior analysis in the Division of Counseling, as part of our joint MS program, those with vocational interests will come away with marketable skills in this area. For those with scholarly goals, my hope is to provide training that facilitates their access to Ph.D. programs in behavior analysis and/or psychology.
Research Interests
G
enerally, my research interests have focused on the development of a behavioral account of those complex hehaviors typically attributed to the intercession of cognitive, or other varieties of mental processes. More specifically, the research has focused on the role of "joint control" in mediating highly abstract and generalized performances in both normal and developmentally disabled children. The research program has been the recipient of numerous grants, both at the institutional and the federal level.
