Position: Graduate Assistant for Management Department

Starting Date: Spring quarter 2012.

Minimum Qualifications: Degree-seeking graduate student in the College of Business and Economics (CBE). Graduate Assistants must be registered in a CBE graduate degree program and must be enrolled in courses towards the completion of that graduate degree during the appointment period. Good communication skills are essential. The applicant should have experience and skill in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  The applicant must have at least a basic knowledge of management concepts including general management, operations management, and organizational behavior. Applicants must have the ability to relate well to others within the academic environment, and demonstrate ability and/or interest in working in a multiethnic, multicultural environment.

Preferred Qualification: The applicant should display an ease and comfort in interacting with undergraduate students. Preferably the applicant has completed undergraduate courses that included the study of management, operations management and organizational behavior.  The applicant should be familiar with the CSULA library databases and basic research processes.

Hiring Criteria: Registered student in a CBE graduate degree program and enrolled in classes during the time of appointment.  Familiarity with management concepts including general management, operations management and organizational behavior.  Strong communication skills and ability to communicate and clarify course topics and tutor undergraduate students. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).  Familiarity with CSULA library databases and basic research processes.  Willingness to assist faculty members in a variety of activities related to the class as needed. Interest or experience working in a multiethnic, multicultural environment.

Duties: Under the general supervision of the faculty member, the Graduate Assistant will provide assistance in the instruction of students by conducting small discussion groups related to large lectures course activities, may assist in handling equipment, maintaining office hours to provide direct individual contact between student and graduate assistant, clarifying course material or course content for students. Will understand topics taught in each class prior to class session in order to tutor and assist students.  Will attend some class sessions as requested by the professor to facilitate small group discussion and some class activities. Will perform clerical or other routine tasks such as grading examinations, recording grades, etc.; assisting faculty with research and the development and preparation of course materials; participating in the evaluation of students’ work and other related tasks.

Salary Range: Current Graduate Assistant rate for an average of 20 hours per week.
