Position: Lecturer/Clinical Preceptor Placement Coordinator, Part-time position with benefits.

Starting Date: Immediate.

Job Summary: Serves as the Clinical Preceptor Placement Coordinator for the School of Nursing and lecturer.  Analyzes and develops community partnerships to meet program needs with respect to undergraduate preceptor placements. Communicates effectively with faculty, students, Associate Director, and program coordinators to identify student and course needs for preceptors.  Forecasts clinical preceptor needs based on student admission and progression dates.  Communicates with clinical agencies and clinical educators to place students with effective and qualified preceptors in appropriate clinical settings. Coordinates with staff to monitor clinical agency contracts, orientation needs and health clearance needs of faculty and students. Maintains clinical site data base and communicates information as indicated. Also assumes some teaching responsibilities for basic foundational skills courses or college introduction to higher education courses, commensurate with educational and experiential background. 

Minimum Qualifications: Candidate must have an appropriate degree from an accredited university. To teach undergraduate lower division basic skills courses-bachelor’s degree in nursing; introduction to higher education courses-master’s degree, for upper division nursing supervision courses a master’s degree in nursing.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate by phone and e-mail with education coordinators at medical facilities across the Los Angeles Basin.  Must be able to plan, organize and prioritize work; maintain files and records; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; exercise tact, courtesy, alertness and good judgment in responding to others.  Must be able to multi-task, and complete assignments in a timely fashion and work under pressure.  Must be computer literate and be proficient in standard work processing and database software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Must possess excellent organization skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; and have an understanding of standard office procedures.  It is essential that the candidate displays a strong customer-service focus and demonstrates the capacity to work successfully with a diverse constituency that consists of students, staff, faculty, administrators, clinical partners and University visitors from diverse cultural and social-economic backgrounds and from constituents from the public and private sectors. Must be able to anticipate potential problems and prevent them from occurring. Able to interpret, organize, and present information and ideas in written or presentation form. Able to teach foundational courses either in the nursing specialty or in HHS Introduction to Higher Education courses.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in the nursing field and/or in a medical facility. Some teaching experience with lower division courses.

Duties: Under supervision of the Associate Director, the incumbent will be responsible for determining student need for preceptors in the nursing program, locate preceptors at the facilities in the Los Angeles Basin and match the students with a preceptor at least one month prior to the quarter
the courses will be taught.  In a given school year, approximately 450 preceptors are to be matched with students.  (The most placements are needed in the fall and Spring quarters of each year.) Assumes some teaching responsibility for basic foundational skills courses or college Introduction to Higher Education courses.

Salary Range: Initial salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
