Position: Graduate Assistant for Department of Communication Studies.
Starting Date: Beginning Fall quarter 2012 and on-going. Quarter-by quarter hiring as dictated by COMM course enrollments.
Minimum Qualifications: Degree-seeking graduate students in the Department of Communication Studies are eligible and preferred. Graduate students in related fields will be considered. Graduate Assistants must be enrolled in courses towards the completion of their graduate degree during the appointment period. Applicants should have the ability to relate well to others within the academic environment, and demonstrate ability and/or interest in working in a multiethnic, multicultural environment. Exceptions to the minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the sole discretion of the University.

Hiring Criteria: Appointments as a Graduate Assistant are made based on evidence of academic achievement, potential for academic success and expressed interest in, and availability for, performing the duties of a Graduate Assistant.
Duties: Under the general supervision of the faculty member for each large lecture format COMM course, the Graduate Assistant will provide instructional assistance such as proctor grading examinations, recording grades, etc.; assisting faculty with research and preparation of course materials; participating in the evaluation of students’ work and other related tasks. The Graduate Assistant may also provide assistance in the instruction of students by conducting small discussion groups related to large lectures course activities, maintaining office hours to provide direct individual contact between student and graduate assistant, clarifying course material or course content for students.

Salary Range: Current Graduate Assistant rate for an average of up to 20 hours per week, depending on number of classes assigned.
