Department of Biological Sciences

Position: Teaching Associate – The Department of Biological Sciences periodically has TA positions available in laboratory sections of courses in both Biology and Microbiology.

Starting Date: Beginning Winter Quarter 2009, and on-going.

Minimum Qualifications: Degree-seeking graduate students in the Department of Biological Sciences to perform instruction. A Bachelor’s degree in a Biological Science, or closely related field, from an accredited institution of higher education is required. Teaching associates must be registered in a CSU graduate degree program and must be enrolled in courses towards the completion of that graduate degree during the teaching associate appointment period. Applicants should have the ability to relate well to others within the academic environment, have the potential for excellent teaching, and demonstrate ability and/or interest in working in a multiethnic, multicultural environment.

Preferred Qualifications: None

Duties: Under supervision of faculty, successful candidates will teach laboratory sections of undergraduate biology or microbiology labs. They will be required to attend weekly meetings with the lab coordinator for the class and they may be expected to attend the lecture associated with the lab that they are teaching and/or help the instructor in the proctoring of exams.

Salary: Initial salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
