Position: Community College and Post-Secondary Education, Tenure-Track Position Open Rank (position contingent upon approval of an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership).
Starting Date: Fall 2009
Minimum Qualifications: An earned doctorate (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in higher education or community college administration and leadership, faculty development, student development, student services or a related field in post-secondary education. A doctorate from an accredited institution of higher education is required for tenure and for appointment at Associate/Full level. The successful candidate will have an active and on-going record of scholarship pertinent to educational leadership at the community college level. Evidence of a solid grounding in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods is expected as is the ability to direct student research, including doctoral dissertations. The candidate will also have significant experience in leadership roles in community college or higher education settings with culturally and linguistically diverse student populations. Candidates should provide a record of or potential for developing scholarly activities involving students, as well as the demonstrated potential for effective teaching using a variety of methodologies. Candidates should also demonstrate an ability or interest in teaching in a multicultural, multiethnic campus.
Preferred Qualifications: Background in at least one core academic field relevant to the study of higher education (e.g., adult development, language and literacy, urban studies, sociology of organizations, public policy and finance), a record of scholarship or potential for scholarship on the early childhood to college/career education trajectory (a.k.a., PreK – 16), ability to teach courses focused on PreK – 12 schooling, experience as an administrator at a community college, experience in university teaching.
Duties: The Division of Applied and Advanced Studies in Education in the Charter College of Education offers master’s degree programs in Educational Administration, Educational Foundations, Information Technology, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), and Research and Evaluation. The new Ed.D. program begins with a specialization in PreK-12 Educational Leadership and expects to add a specialization in Community College Leadership the following year. This position is the first faculty appointment for the Ed.D. specialization in Community College Leadership. In addition to teaching courses in the Ed.D. program and the division’s master’s degree programs, faculty hired for this position will join existing Ed.D. program faculty in designing the curriculum for the community college specialization, recruiting students for the emphasis, and establishing relations with local post-secondary institutions. Other duties include student advisement and committee service for the Division of Applied and Advanced Studies in Education, Charter College of Education, and the University. Faculty hired for this position may be required to teach in the summer quarter in lieu of a quarter during the academic year.
Salary: Initial salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
