| Health Science Advisement Office
(HSAO) |
- It
is the primary goal of the HSAO to provide support services
and information for pre-health professional students before,
during and after their application to health professional
schools. The
HSAO provides services to pre-health professional students
interested in the following professions:
Medicine, Optometry, Veterinary Medicine,
Dentistry, Pharmacy, Podiatry, Osteopathic Medicine,
Chiropractic Medicine, and Physician Assistant Programs.
The
HSAO provides students the opportunity to open a
confidential letter of recommendation file as a freshman and
continue to update it until they are ready to apply to a
professional school during their junior year. At the HSAO
students find the faculty support, advisement, and services
necessary to achieve their professional goals.
Some
of the Services the HCAO provides all CSULA
pre-health professional students are:
- Academic
and pre-health professional advisement.
- A
Personal and confidential file for letters of recommendation
- A
personalized cover letter for each individual applicant is
composed and included with the letters to form a “letter
of recommendation packet”.
- A
Mailing service to distribute the letter of recommendation
packet to health and allied health professional schools of
the student’s choice.
- An
Annual Orientation Session.
- Application
workshops.
- Personal
Statement Workshops. (A
series of workshops to develop a Personal Essay from start
to finish).
- Medical
College Admissions Test/Dental Admissions Test (MCAT/DAT)
preparation. Review
sessions in Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics,
and Verbal and Writing Skills.
- Videotaped
mock interviews.
- Information
about post-baccalaureate and summer enrichment programs.
- Information
about opportunities for volunteer work and research
experience.

Information
about information days and conferences at health
professional schools.
- Library
of professional school catalogs/brochures and admission
requirements publications.
- Weekly
Speaker Seminar Series (Fridays at noon during the academic
year-Fall, Winter, and Spring)
