Western Regional Noyce meeting

January 26:

1) Topics include:

  • Pre/early career mentoring
    • Working with students, teachers, school and district personnel as experienced by Noyce scholars now teaching.
  • Support for scholars at conference and throughout sites and partner districts
    • Teaching of math/science
  • Inquiry lessons for math/science
    • Assessment: formative vs. summative and how it informs future teaching
    • Interviewing skills and tips with mock interviews
    • Transition from student to professional teacher
  • Dissemination of professional development by scholars for scholars (at sites)

2) Networking of Programs, Districts, and Scholars:

  • Programs
    • Regional: to create local Noyce communities
    • Successes and challenges: sharing strategies to transform challenges into successes.
  • Faculty, Scholars and District personnel: regional sessions
    • Creating a broad support community for scholars and programs to enhance "cross-fertilization" of projects, for example to help with recruiting, or to invite all Southern California Noyce Scholars to seminars at multiple project sites.
  • Scholars
    • Regional: to create local Noyce communities
    • Similar content areas: for sharing of ideas and best practices
