Undergraduate Application Deadlines

Fall Semester admittance: Apply to the University October 1–November 30 of the previous year. For example: to attend Fall 2016, apply October 1-November 30, 2015.
Spring Semester admittance: Apply to the University August 1-31 of the previous year. For example: to attend Spring 2017, apply August 1-31, 2016.
CSU Mentor Application Fee: A $55.00 application fee must be submitted by the application deadline.

Fall 2017 Audition Dates:
Sunday, February 26th, 2017 - Afro-Latin, Voice and Instrumental only
Saturday, March 4th, 2017 - Afro-Latin, Voice, Piano, Jazz, Instrumental and Commercial Music

Step 1:
All incoming freshman and transfer students must first apply to the univeristy through the CSU Mentor website. General admissions information and frequently asked questions can be found on the Univeristy Admissions and Recruitment website

Step 2:
Acceptance into an undergraduate or graduate music degree program at California State University, Los Angeles requires a performance audition. Entering freshmen and undergraduate transfer students who have been accepted for admission by the university should be prepared to perform for a faculty panel a 10-minute program of music drawn from the standard repertoire for the student’s instrument or voice.  A list of specific audition requirements for each area of music study can be found by selecting one of the links below. Graduate degree candidates in instrumental or vocal performance seeking admission will find audition requirements listed under the list of voice and instruments noted. 

Audition Repertoire
Select the instrument or voice on which you wish to audition for a description of the undergraduate and graduate repertoire requirements.  Undergraduate music education candidates must audition on their principal instrument or voice.  Undergraduate candidates seeking admission to jazz studies or composition, please select the links below for specific audition requirements and expectations for admission to those programs. Graduate degree candidates seeking admission to a specialized degree program should refer to the specific graduate degree program of interest for specific audition or other pre-admission requirements.

Step 3:
After reviewing the audition repertoire, all incoming freshman and transfer students must schedule an audition by completing the online Music Application. Auditions are held yearly and audition dates will be announced on our homepage.  International students can submit audition videos online or mail in physical copies.
