Our Afro Latin Ensemble has been invited to perform at the 29th World Conference of the International Society for Music Education (ISME) convening the first week of August 2010 in Beijing China. The ISME conference will bring thousands of music professionals from around the world who are engaged in providing music education to children and adults in school, college, university and community settings. The conference will provide hundreds of presentations, workshops and clinics. In addition, the conference invites select music ensembles to perform showcasing the variety of music styles and genres that can be found around the globe. The ensembles perform both at the former Olympic sites where the conference is being held, as well as at venues around Beijing.
This is a wonderful honor for our Afro Latin Ensemble and its director, Dr. Paul De Castro. Dr. De Castro has worked diligently to build our graduate degree program in Afro Latin Music and this invitation demonstrates the success of those efforts.
