Dr. Paul De Castro

Faculty: Afro Latin Music, Jazz Studies

Dr. De Castro is teaching Afro Latin Music, Jazz Ensembles, and coaching small groups at California State University, Los Angeles.

Dr. De Castro honed his keyboard performance and compositional skills at Pasadena City College and California State University Los Angeles where he earned the Bachelor of Arts and the Master of Arts degrees. His private teachers have included Herb Mickman, Mike Garson, and David Roitstein. Around town in L.A. and Austin Dr. De Castro performed with Gary Foster, Bobbie Bradford, Charlie Haden, and Nick Brignola in addition to performing in numerous jazz and salsa groups.

Dr. De Castro composes mostly for jazz ensemble, jazz combo, and studio orchestras. His compositions have been recorded by the Jeff Benedict Project, the Stacy Rowles Sextet, and the CSLA Jazz Ensembles. In 1997 Dr. De Castro organized the CSULA Afro Latin Ensemble (MUS 427) which is dedicated to the performance of Afro-Cuban music and latin jazz.
