Students entering the undergraduate majors complete programs preparing them
for high school teaching, for graduate study, or for positions in government, industry,
business, or other fields.
Students must complete the core requirements of their major and then, in
consultation with the undergraduate adviser, must select an option.
Both degrees offer the General Mathematics, Pure Mathematics,
and Single Subject Teaching options. In addition, the BS degree in Mathematics offers
options in Applied Mathematics and Applied Mathematics - Computer Science.
Students with adequate preparation from high school (usually geometry, trigonometry,
and 2 years of algebra) may obtain either degree in four years.
Students whose command of these subjects is weak may be
advised to strengthen their knowledge before attempting college mathematics.
