Michelle Hawley, Ph.D
Director, Honors College
As Director of the Honors College, Dr. Hawley is responsible for developing strategies to enhance CSULA's reputation for recruiting outstanding students and supporting them. She works with the Honors College Advisory committee to develop Honors College goals and objectives and plans for evaluation and assessment. She participates in external fundraising, coordinating and assessing effective curriculum, and oversees the Early Entrance Program, the President's Scholars, and other Honors College scholarships. Hawley also coordinates with the University's colleges and other units to advance programs that support academic excellence.
Prior to this position, she has been a Professor in the College of Arts and Letters' English Department since 1999. She has taught a wide range of courses in Victorian literature, children's literature, and cultural studies. Hawley has produced dozens of publications and presentations related to her teaching and interests. She has also served as director of Service Learning and Community Engagement and director of Students Learning in Communities.
Iris Aceves
Advisement, Admissions, and Recruitment Coordinator
Ms. Aceves works closely with Honors students as they develop personalized academic plans that will help them achieve their long-term goals. She helps them identify milestones along the way and connects with them resources, both on and off-campus, that will lead towards their pathway to success. She work closely with Dr. Hawley to develop and organize orientation, recruitment and admissions processes, activities, and events. She works closely with other advisors, offices and departments on campus to coordinate opportunities for involvement and achievement.
Peng-Yi (Sharon) Zhu
Honors Student Assistant
Sharon is the student assistant for the Honors College. An Honors student majoring in Biochemistry, Sharon is the President of the Academic Honors Association (AHA!). In her capacity as Honors student assistant, Sharon works closely with the Director and the staff in the office. She assists with day-to-day operations of the Honors College as well as with events, recruitment, Honors Ambassadors, flyers, social media, and much more.
