Bachelor of Science -Nutritional Science

Nutritional Science BS Degree

Program Philosophy
The overall goal of the bachelors in the Nutritional Science program is to prepare students for graduate studies or for entry level positions in nutrition, dietetics, food service management or food science.

Opportunities
Students who complete the B.S. in Nutritional Science have numerous opportunities for professional advancement in clinical dietetics, community nutrition, food service management, sports nutrition, wellness programs, home health and nutrition consulting.

Faculty
The faculty members of the School of Kinesiology and Nutritional Science are committed to helping students achieve excellence. They have recognized expertise in such areas as community nutrition, food services management, clinical dietetics, experimental research, weight management (obesity and eating disorders).

Options
Students may select one of two options:
The Nutritional Science Option is also known as the
Didactic Program in Dietetics
(DPD)
The Nutritional Science option (DPD) prepares students to work as nutritionists or continue their education at the Masters level. In addition, the Nutritional Science option prepares students to enter dietetics internships approved by the American Dietetic Association.
Coordinated Dietetics Program (CDP)
The Coordinated Dietetics Program (CDP) option is designed for persons seeking both academic course work and supervised practice required to qualify to take the examination to become a Registered Dietitian (RD).
Students must select one of two available options:  the Nutrition option - Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) (which also prepares students to enter dietetics internships and is accredited by the American Dietetic Association) or the Coordinated Dietetics Program (CDP) Option (includes the ‘internship’ component and is accredited by the American Dietetic Association).  Graduates of the Coordinated Dietetics Program (CDP) Option are fully eligible for membership in the American Dietetic Association and to take the national examination to become a Registered Dietitian (R.D.)
The total number of units required for the Bachelor of Science degree in Nutritional Science is 180-186 units, of which 127-136 units are in the major depending on the option selected.  Consult with an advisor for the specific number of units required in all areas of the degree including GE and free electives.

Undergraduate Programs

 

International Students:
Your transcripts must be evaluated before we can give you credit for coursework taken.  You will need to visit the webpage at http://www.eatright.org/cps/rde/xchg/ada/hs.xsl/CADE_398_ENU_HTML.htm to find an agency that is approved by the American Dietetic Association to evaluate your transcripts.  Once your transcripts have been evaluated, they should be sent or brought directly to the School of Kinesiology and Nutritional Science.
