Admissions Information

Undergraduate Admissions

If you will be attending Cal State LA as a first-time freshman or transfer student, refer to the Office of Admissions and University Outreach for general admissions information.  If you have an undergraduate degree in a field other than Communication Disorders and wish to take prerequisites for the MA program, apply to the university as a graduate student (see below).

Graduate Admissions

To find out more about some of the unique aspects of the Department of Communication Disorders, including specific data on graduation rates for graduate students, employment rates for M.A. program graduates, and passing rates for the National Examination in Speech-Language Pathology, go to our Fact Sheet and go to the section entitled “Why Cal State Los Angeles for Graduate Study?”

For information regarding admission to the University, go to the Office of Admissions and University Outreach.

Admission to the MA program in Speech-Language Pathology is a two-step process.  Prospective students must first apply to the University, and then apply to the Department of Communication Disorders (there is no extra fee for applying to the Department).  There are two timelines for this admissions procedure, depending on the student's background:

COMD background:

For students with an undergraduate degree in Communication Disorders or the equivalent (i.e., completion of prerequisite coursework), application to the University and the Department will take place at the same time.

For information regarding admission to the Department, see the Communicative Disorders Graduate Admissions Application.  Further information about our graduate program can be found in our Fact Sheet.  Students are admitted only once a year in the Fall, and applications are due on February 15th.

No COMD background:

Students with an undergraduate degree in another field need to first apply to the University to take undergraduate prerequisite coursework and later apply to the Department upon completion (or near completion) of those prerequisites.  Note: University admissions is closed for Fall 2009, Winter 2010, and Spring 2010.  For information on how to take prerequisites during the 2009/2010 academic year, contact the COMD Department Office (323-343-4690).
