Program Objectives
The General Education Honors Program will:
-
Provide high potential students an opportunity to participate in
intellectually demanding and academically challenging general education
courses.
-
Offer opportunities for greater interaction with peers and
involvement in interdisciplinary learning.
-
Identify Cal State L.A. resources through which high potential
students can receive academic, personal, and career counseling that will
help them to better define and reach their goals.

Create opportunities for high potential students and faculty members
to establish closer educational and personal relationships.

Prepare students for participation in upper division Departmental
Honors Programs. Student Benefits and
Opportunities
Students are offered the following special opportunities:

Special Sections of general education courses.
Participation in courses
appropriately modified in content, methodology, and level of enrichment
for the high potential student. These courses also maintain smaller
class sizes and are coordinated and taught by a group of select faculty.
(Honors Program students are required to complete at least 24 units with
a minimum 3.0 grade point average to earn a General Education Honors
Program certificate, recognition cord, and transcript designation.)

Honors Societies. Coordination of membership with other local and
national honors societies and organizations.

Priority Registration Privileges.
Priority registration privileges help ensure Honors students
may move forward with their Academic career in a timely manner.

4. The General Education Honors Club. The General Education Honors Club, under
the direction of the student complied Board of Directors, sponsors
special seminars and social activities throughout the year. These events
provide the opportunity for GEHP students to interact with their peers
and University faculty in a casual environment.

Scholarship and Research Opportunities.
The General Education Honors Program awards
scholarships throughout the year. GEHP students have the opportunity to
participate in a variety of research opportunities that include
presentation at local, national and professional conferences.

Minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.3

Eligible to enroll in university-level English and math.
For admission into the General Education Honors Program students should
submit a completed application to the GEHP office.

Once in the Program, participant responsibilities include:

Maintaining a minimum 3.0 overall cumulative grade point average.

Completion of at least 24 units of GEHP courses
(at least two per year).

Completion of 12 service/volunteer hours per year.
