Poet Yunte Huang in Residence at CSULA April 19-20, 2006
Yunte Huang will be in residence at Cal State
LA in April 2006. Huang's visit is made
possible by the Virginia E. Smith Endowment for Poetry and
Poetics.
Huang will offer a free poetry reading, open to the
public, on Wednesday, April 19 at 6:30pm in Salazar Hall
C260.
Yunte Huang came to the U.S. in 1991 after
graduating from Peking University
with a B.A. in English. He received his Ph.D. from the
Poetics Program at SUNY-Buffalo in
1999 and taught as an Assistant Professor
of English
at Harvard University from 1999-2003. He is the author of CRIBS
(Tinfish Press, 2005), Transpacific
Displacement: Ethnography, Translation, and
Intertextual Travel in Twentieth-Century American
Literature (University of
California Press, 2002), and Shi: A Radical Reading ofChinese Poetry (Roof Books,
1997). He is also the translator into Chinese of
Ezra Pound's The Pisan Cantos.
Huang is currently an Associate
Professor of English at the
University of California, Santa Barbara, where he teaches
twentieth-century American poetry and
transpacific literature. He just completed
a new book, 'The Deadly Space Between': Literature and
Historyin the Age of
Transpacific Imagination, and is working on a poetic
memoir about his life in Alabama.
