2006-07 CSU Sally Casanova Pre-Doctoral Scholars Program
The California Pre-Doctoral Program is designed to increase the pool of potential faculty by supporting the doctoral aspirations of California State University (CSU) students who have experienced economic and educational disadvantages. The program places a special emphasis on increasing the number of CSU students who enter doctoral programs at one of the University of California (UC) institutions.
Students are eligible to apply for a Pre-Doctoral Scholar Award if they are a junior or senior level undergraduate with a GPA of 3.5 or higher, or are a graduate student who is classified as G2 or G3 with GPA of 3.75 or higher. Applicants must be enrolled at Cal State L.A. during the Spring Term of 2006 and at least one term of the 2006-2007 academic year. Visa students are not eligible to apply for an award.
A Pre-Doctoral Scholar must have a faculty mentor and the faculty mentor assists the student as he/she goes through the process of applying to Ph.D. programs. Each Scholar receives $3,000 which they can use to cover costs associated with visiting graduate schools, attending professional meetings, joining professional societies, and preparing for and taking the GRE. Scholars also have an opportunity to participate in a paid summer internship at a Ph.D. granting institution. Mentors are recognized for their significant and very rewarding contribution to student achievement.
Students who are eligible to apply for and are interested in this program should download the application from http://www.calstate.edu/predoc/. Information about the program is also located at this website.
The deadline for receipt of applications by the Office of Graduate Studies and Research is Monday, March 13, 2006.
