Cal State LA English Professor Lauri Ramey Appointed Visiting Professor in China

Prof. Ramey presents Cal State LA Seal to Central China Normal University Appointed as a government Visiting Professor at Central China Normal University, Lauri Ramey of the Cal State LA English Department taught a 4-week PhD course titled Poetry as Difference in December 2015. During her appointment in China, Dr. Ramey delivered a plenary lecture titled "Someone's Singin': The Influence of the Spirituals on 20th and 21st Century African American Poetry" at the Forum for Modern and Contemporary English Literature at Central China Normal University (CCNU) on November 26, 2015.

In addition, while at CCNU, she presented the Cal State L.A. seal to the Deputy Director of the International Office. In turn, she was given a silk tie for Cal State LA President William Covino, to symbolize the ties between CCNU and Cal State L.A., who have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding. 

Ramey also delivered a keynote lecture titled "African American Poetry Since 1945" at the 4th Annual Convention of the Chinese / American Association for Poetry and Poetics at Shandong Normal University on November 29, 2015. She also delivered the closing remarks for this conference where she announced that the 5th Annual CAAP Conference--the first to be held outside of China--will be hosted by Cal State L.A. from November 11-14, 2016. In addition, she delivered an invited lecture titled "Formal Innovation in African American Poetry" at Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications on December 3, 2015.

In addition to her work at CCNU, Dr. Ramey served as Guest Professor at Yunnan Normal University, where she delivered a series of three lectures on African American poetry, led a graduate student seminar, and judged a poetry contest, from December 6-10, 2015. She also delivered a paper titled "Theatres of War: Black Watch and The Great Game: Afghanistan" at the Crossing the Boundaries in Drama/Theatre Studies International Symposium at Zhongnan University of Economics and Law on December 5, 2015.
