Approved Alternative Courses for Meeting Degree Program Requirements, 2015-2016

To help students find the classes they need to graduate before Fall 2016 and to help others make the transition from quarters to semesters, English Department advisers have agreed to accept some alternative courses to those currently required for both the General and the Single Subject Credential options.

Listed below are courses offered in 2015-2016 that may be used to satisfy program requirements. If you intend to enroll in one of these courses and use it to satisfy a program requirement, please make an appointment with an undergraduate adviser as soon as possible to ensure that the course is included in your program.

Courses Offered in Spring 2016 That May be Used to Satisfy Program Requirements

  • ENGL 301 - Introduction to Language (may be used to satisfy the linguistics elective for General Option only)
  • ENGL 475C - American Novel, 1945-present (may be substituted for ENGL 473)

In addition, an adviser can approve the use of ENGL 492 as an American, British, or World literature elective depending on the course topic.

Courses Offered in Winter 2016 That May be Used to Satisfy Program Requirements

  • AAAS 350 - Ancient East Asian Literature and the Modern World (may be used as a World Literature course for both General and Single Subject Credential Options)
  • ENGL 301 - Introduction to Language (may be used to satisfy the linguistics elective for General Option only)
  • ENGL 418 - Shakespeare II (may be substituted for the British Literature (ENGL 417) requirement)
  • ENGL 475B - American Novel, 1900-1945 (may be substituted for ENGL 472)

In addition, an adviser can approve the use of ENGL 492 as an American, British, or World literature elective depending on the course topic.

Courses Offered in Fall 2015 That May be Used to Satisfy Program Requirements

  • ENGL 301 - Introduction to Language (may be used to satisfy the linguistics elective for General Option only)
  • ENGL 400 -  Introduction to Linguistics (may be used to satisfy the linguistics elective for both General and Single Subject Credential Options)
  • ENGL 475A - American Novel, 19th Century (may be substituted for either ENGL 471 or ENGL 472)

In addition, an adviser can approve the use of ENGL 492 as an American, British, or World literature elective depending on the course topic.
