I would like to welcome you to the Department of Technology's home page. I encourage you to browse through our web pages to locate important information related to our six (6) degree programs, student organizations, state-of-the-art facilities, full-time faculty, 2+2 transfer articulations with community colleges and general university information. We offer four different Bachelor of Science degrees (Aviation Administration, Fire Protection Administration, Graphic Communications and Industrial Technology), one Bachelor of Vocational Education and one Master of Arts degree in Industrial and Technical Studies. There are four-color program brochures to download (.PDF format) for three of the degree programs (Aviation Administration, Fire Protection Administration and Industrial Technology). You can examine the major requirements for each of the B.S. degrees by clicking on the Program Curriculum button located on the left side of each program web page.
The Department of Technology employs 10 full-time, and 18 adjunct faculty members. Half of our full-time faculty are primary advisors who offer advisement to every student enrolled in our programs. Advisors have access to records online and work with students to provide information on major requirements, general education, and university regulations.
The Department supports five active student organizations, Phi Pi Alpha (Fire Protection Administration Fraternity), Graphic Communications Club, National Association of Industrial Technology (NAIT), Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME). I am very proud of our student organizations because they provide wonderful opportunities for students to become leaders, organize activities, participate in regional and national competitions, initiate fund raising, and perform community service activities. During the 2003/2004 academic year, our SAE Supermileage team placed 1st in the nation and 2nd internationally achieving 1615 miles/gallon with Super Eagle V. We won 1st Place in the university division competing at the WESTEC/SME Manufacturing Challenge Contest with our unique electric 3-wheeled vehicle in 2004 and again won 1st Place in 2005 with our Rotary Stirling Engine! We're proud of our students and thrive on their success when they compete against their peers from other institutions!
The Department of Technology is a "Technology Teacher Education" partner for the National Center for Engineering and Technology Education (NCETE). Dr. Ethan Lipton and Dr. Don Maurizio are actively involved in this NSF funded center. In addition to the grant, Dr. Lipton is the President of the International Technology Education Association (ITEA).
In closing, if you cannot find the information you're looking for on our web pages, please visit our department office in the Engineering and Technology building, rooms A-337 (Main Office) and A-338 (Advisement Office) or call us at: (323) 343-4550. We have some of the best facilities in the country and I'd be happy to show them to you.
Thanks for visiting and hope to see you soon!
