Requirements for all students
- Check your emails frequently the week before school begins in the Fall. You will be sent an announcement when project descriptions for next year are posted. You will be required to fill in a survey form so that you can be assigned to a project.
- Ensure that your student ID card is operational, and that you have an operational PIN.
- Attend the Professional Practice Launch Day. You will be notified when the date and event information is finalized, but be aware that this event is mandatory. This usually occurs at the end of the second week of Fall quarter.
- We recommend that you practice your technical presentation and writing skills, and that you practice your library research skills, e.g. locating journal papers, books, and other formal documentation required for literature reviews.
Requirements for Mechanical Engineering students
- Ensure you have passed ME 323, and we recommend that you have completed the majority of your upper division courses. Additionally, if you have not already done so, you must enroll in any co-requisite courses you have not yet completed by no later than Fall 2011. Any issues with this requirement must be discussed with Professor Guillaume. Pre-requisites and enrollment in co-requisites for ME 497A will be re-checked in the fall, and if you don't meet the requirements, you will be dropped from ME 497A.
- Register for the October 2011 FE exam. The registration window is now open, and will close on September 9 this year. Use the following link for more information and to register for the exam: http://www.ncees.org/Exams/FE_exam.php
- As soon as you complete registration for the exam, please forward your registration confirmation email from NCEES to Professor Pham at tkpham@gmail.com. Please note that you are not required to pass the FE exam. You must only show proof of registration, and then bring in your exam results once you receive your score. Students who pass the FE exam will be reimbursed their registration fee.
- Only students who have met the pre-requisites for the course, and have submitted their confirmation email for the FE exam will be granted a permit to enroll in ME 497A.
- We recommend that you review/learn SolidWorks, and that you take either ME 114 or TECH 160 in the fall quarter. Some teams may also require the usage of Patran, so spend some time with this program over the summer if you can.
Requirements for Electrical Engineering students
- Ensure you have passed EE 330, and it is recommended that you have taken at least one upper division lab elective. Students who have not met the course pre-requisites will be dropped from EE 496A.
- Ensure you have chosen a specialization area, either independently, or with the help of your academic advisor.
- We recommend that you review/learn Labview.
- Note: Students who choose to take the FE exam and pass will be reimbursed their registration fee.
