Minor Requirements
Nowadays, a "Minor" edge over your competition could put you above the rest. The Department of Computer Science coordinates two minors for students interested in computers which are open to all majors. These programs are designed to meet the needs of two diverse student groups. Each of these minor programs is explained below:
- Traditional Minor in Computer Science: This minor is designed for students wishing to learn about the discipline of computing. Students in this minor take the same courses as do CS majors, stopping after 25 units of coursework is completed. - The Information Technology (IT) minor: This minor is designed for students who do not wish to become computer scientists, but realize that their chosen field requires the regular use of basic computing skills. The minor comprises courses from multiple disciplines and is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills that will allow them to effectively apply IT to the profession of their choice. Students who take the IT minor will complete the following three steps:
- Acquire or demonstrate computer literacy.
- Complete four core courses that will give all students a solid understanding of the fundamentals of IT.
- Select and complete a minimum of three courses from one of the skill areas.
