There are many scholarships available for Charter College of Education students. Scholarship applications are reviewed by the CCOE Student Development Committee which selects the recipients for the scholarships or, if required by the criteria for the scholarships, applications of eligible students are sent to the scholarship donor to make the final selection.
General Scholarships - There are over 40 general scholarships available to be awarded to students in our programs. The CCOE Student Development Committee reviews the applications and selects students that best meet the criteria for these scholarships. To apply, students should go to the Center for Student Financial Aid (in SA 124) for applications or download an application(select CSLA Financial Aid/Scholarship Forms below). Deadlines for 2009-10 scholarship applications can be found on the Center for Student Financial Aid’s On-Campus Scholarship website.
Friends of the Charter College of Education Scholarships - In order to be eligible for scholarships, students must be enrolled in the Charter College of Education and have completed or will complete by Spring 2009 at least one quarter of traditional Directed Teaching. Applications for these scholarships are mailed to eligible students during the winter quarter.
Edison International Teachers for Tomorrow Scholarship - This scholarship was established to help economically and educationally disadvantaged students obtain a teaching credential. Applicants must be full-time students in a teacher credential program (multiple subject, single subject or education specialist), have an overall 3.0 GPA and must remain a full-time student (enrolled in 12 units or more each quarter) through the entire 2007-08 academic year. Letters inviting qualified students to apply for this scholarship are mailed during the winter quarter. They may also be picked up in the Associate Dean’s office after March 14, 2009. Nominees are selected by the Student Development Committee; recipients are selected by the Edison Company. Applications must be turned into the Associate Dean’s office by April 11, 2009.
Assumption Program of Loans for Education (APLE) - Under the provisions of the APLE program, the California Student Aid Commission may assume up to $19,000 in outstanding educational loan balances in return for four consecutive years of full-time eligible teaching service in a California K-12 public school. Participants must teach in a designated area including:
- A designated subject area (i.e. mathematics, science, English and language arts, foreign language, or special education)
- Low income area school
- State special schools, schools serving rural areas, low-performing schools, and/or
- Low performing schools
Students selected for this program must have received an educational load for the purpose of defraying costs associated with obtaining a baccalaureate degree or an initial teaching credential. They must have a GPA of 2.75 in the last 90 units, they must have not yet completed all of the coursework necessary to obtain an initial credential, and they must be enrolled during the 2009-10 through the quarter that they complete their program.
