Teaching Fellowship Program

$20,000 to help pay living and educational expenses. Designed to prepare teachers
to teach in low performing schools.
Eligibility Requirements
- Bachelors
degree from accredited college or university
- Verified academic
and employment record
- Proof of admission
to and/or enrollment in a California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC)
accredited teacher education (non-intern) program.
- Enrolled full
time
- Letters of
recommendation and faculty/employer evaluations.
- Interviews
with program administrators
- Commitment
to teach in a low performing school

APLE
(The Assumption Program of Loans for Education)

Under APLE, the California Student Aid Commission may assume up to $11,000 in
educational loans in return for four consecutive years of full-time eligible
teaching service in a California K-12 public school.
Download
application, complete it and bring it to the office of Student Services, KH D2078.
Participants
must agree to teach in one of the following:
- A designated
subject-shortage area identified annually by the State Superintendent of Public
Education
- Schools serving
a large population of students from low-income families
- A State special
school
- Schools serving
rural areas
- Schools where
there is a high percentage of teachers holding emergency permits.
Eligibility
Requirements:
- Must have a
minimum GPA of 2.67 or higher
- Must be a legal
resident of California.
- Must have completed
a minimum of 60 semester or 90 quarter units prior to the fall term of the
year of application.
- Must enroll
in a program leading to a BA degree or in an approved program of teacher preparation.
- Enrollment
must begin during fall of year of application.
- Must have received,
or have been approved to receive, Stafford Student Loans/Guaranteed Student
Loans (GSL), Perkins/National Direct Student Loans (NDSL), Supplemental Loans
Program for Students (SLS), Consolidation Loan Program loans, or privately
funded educational loans issued to students through institutions of higher
education for the purpose of defraying costs associated with obtaining a BA
degree or an initial teaching credential.
- Must be free
of any obligation to repay any state or federal educational grant and not
be in default on any state or federally insured educational loan.
- Must not have
completed the teacher credential coursework, unless one has an initial teaching
credential and is pursuing a specialist credential, required for teaching
in specific/special areas targeted under the APLE.
- Must agree
to teach in a California public school for at least four consecutive years
after obtaining a full teaching credential.
Federal
Perkins Loan
Low interest loans at 5% made through participating colleges for students with
exceptional financial need. The annual loan limit is $6,000 for graduate students
(aggregate loan limit, $40,000). Youll pay no interest while youre
enrolled in school at least half time, and repayment begins nine months after
you graduate, leave school, or drop below half-time status. Eligibility based
on financial need.
Teachers
For Tomorrow Scholarship Program
Edison International shareholders provide twenty-five $5,000 scholarships to
CSU students seeking teaching credentials at eligible southern CA campuses.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must attend
a participating CSU campus.
- Must be enrolled
as a full-time CSU student in a teacher preparation program (single, multiple
or special ed. credential).
- Must be in
good academic standing with a cumulative undergraduate minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Must demonstrate
financial need as determined by financial aid office.
- One applicant
per campus must identify math or science as an area of concentration.
- Dependents
of Edison International employees are not eligible.
