Admission to the Program

The admission requirements are a BA or BS from an accredited university and a 2.75 grade point average in the last 90 quarter units. If you are an international student, you must also complete the TOEFL test with a score 550 or higher on the paper-based test, 213 or higher on the computer-based test. A prerequisite for both programs includes (1) EDIT 430 an introductory course or courses covering computer applications in society and education, and (2) a passing score on the Graduate Writing Proficiency Examination (must be satisfied within the first three quarters of enrollment).

Application Steps:

STEP 1
To be admitted to the M.A. in Education: Option in Educational Technology and Leadership or Option in New Media Design and Production, you first must be admitted to California State University, Los Angeles as a graduate student. Contact the CSULA Admissions Office for further information and for admission forms.

STEP 2
After you are admitted to the University, you may apply to be admitted to the Instructional Technology M.A. program by (1) completing the Charter College of Education Application forms, (2) attaching official transcripts, and (3) attaching two letters of recommendation from university faculty or professional references.

STEP 3
Turn in your application packet to the Division of Applied and Advanced Studies in Education in King Hall C2098. The office staff will check your application for GPA and required documentation.

STEP 4

You may begin taking courses in the program--especially the prerequisite--before being formally admitted. However, no more than 13 units completed prior to the submission of program admission forms may be counted toward the M.A. degree, nor may you transfer more than 13 units into the program from another university. It is strongly advised that you complete the admission procedures as soon as you decide to enter the program. Under any circumstances, you must see your advisor before beginning to take courses in the program to assure that the courses you take will count toward the M.A. degree.
