Cal State LA Department of Modern Languages and Literatures presents El Cipitio & Las Maras Salvatruchas (gangs): Mito y Realidad

This program examines the transformation of American gangs, "Mara Salvatrucha" & "Barrio 18", in search of community identity to become ruthless international criminals within the context of El Cipitio. Learn how and why they became high profile criminals, more noticeable during the President Bush-Cheney Administration. It was precisely Vice President Cheney who deported "Las Maras Savatruchas" to El Salvador, why? Was it to destabilize the El Salvador Communist ruling party, the FMLN? This program will be conducted by a group of panelists, experts on the subject.
