Welcome to the website of the College of Arts and Letters at California
State University, Los Angeles. The College of Arts and Letters has
always been a wonderful place to learn and grow, and it’s becoming an
even more exciting place to be as we increase the number of outstanding
students and faculty in the College.
Cal State L.A. continues to acquire state-of-the-art equipment while updating facilities and building new buildings to foster our goal of educational excellence at a public university price, attracting students, staff, and faculty who reflect the highly diverse Los Angeles basin.
The College of Arts and Letters has outstanding undergraduate and
graduate programs covering a wide range of subjects in the humanities:
Art; Communication Studies (including Television, Film, and Media
Studies); English;
Liberal Studies; Modern Languages and Literatures; Music; Philosophy;
and Theatre Arts and Dance.
Would you like to teach at an elementary, middle, or high school?
You might major in the Liberal Arts or in a subject such as
English, Music, or Modern Languages and Literatures that you
would like
to teach.
Would you
like to develop your creative talents? The Arts and Letters
faculty will guide your fiction, poetry, screenplay and theatrical
writing.
Do
you like to display your talents? Student exhibitions of art work,
weekly music
recitals, student film and media project showings, and
many
theatrical and dance performances happen all around the calendar,
including
the
summer.
Or would you
like a
structured way to approach life’s most critical questions?
Undergraduate and graduate degrees in Philosophy taught

faculty might be the place for you.

to shine and their work is recognized in all sorts
of venues, from the CSU student research competitions all the
way to faculty members winning
Oscar™ and Emmy™ awards! Our alumni are highly accomplished and pursue
diverse fields—from
practicing law to producing major motion pictures,
from careers in opera to local television studios, from public
relations to web design,
from teaching
kindergarten to doctoral students.
As the new Dean of the College of Arts and Letters at
Cal State L.A., I am extremely proud of our programs
as well as our creative, supportive, and caring faculty and staff.
