Quarter to Semester Conversion

The purpose of this website is to provide the campus community with an opportunity to review materials related to issues surrounding the conversion from quarters to semesters. As this campus discussion ensues, we should keep in mind that this is a unique opportunity to re-examine and redefine our curricula in a comprehensive manner to meet the educational and market needs of the future. The simultaneous revision of the curricula across the departments and colleges provides us with a rare chance for integrating a redesigned curriculum that reflects emerging best practices.

A number of arguments will emerge which support remaining on the quarter system. There will also be statements arguing conversion to semesters. However, what needs to be the focus of all of these discussions is what is best for the University as a whole.

While the change to semesters is being considered, faculty, staff and students will have the opportunity to examine the benefits and the challenges of the semester system. We are encouraging the campus community to use this website to become informed about conversion issues as well as provide a forum for questions, comments and concerns.
