Student Success is at the heart of the 2011-2016 Draft Strategic Plan. Consistent with this, the Division of Academic Affairs has reorganized to form a Student Success Team, coordinating the oversight, implementation and assessment of undergraduate and graduate programs and initiatives on campus.
Dr. Cheryl Ney, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, leads the Student Success Team, which is also comprised of the Dean of Undergraduate Studies, Dr. Alfredo Gonzales, and the Interim Dean of Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Alan Muchlinski. Together, the Student Success Team works in a coordinated manner on issues related to undergraduate and graduate curriculum, student policies, and projects that support student success.
These efforts include the goal of increasing engagement of undergraduate and graduate students in research, scholarship, and creative activities, and to assess how such engagement adds value to their educational experience at Cal State LA. In addition, the coordinated effort will help ensure that both undergraduate and graduate students benefit from efforts such as the Graduation Initiative and the new Academic Advisement plan. The streamlined reporting line to the Provost will also increase operational efficiency, improving Academic Affair’s effectiveness in supporting student success at Cal State LA.
