Dear Faculty Colleagues:
We are off to an exciting start to the academic year. We have exceeded our Fall full time equivalent student (FTES) target. There is much going on and much to share. This is the first of what I hope will be a quarterly communication to keep you updated of various campus efforts and initiatives.
You will find a number of topics of information in this newsletter, including updates on Advisement and Student Success, Community Engagement, the Center for Effective Teaching and Learning (CETL), the GET/Common Management System (CMS) upgrade, a reorganization within Academic Affairs, and a summary of the recent appointments.

Academic Affairs Reorganizes to Improve Student Success

Student Success is at the heart of the 2011-2016 Draft Strategic Plan. Consistent with this, the Division of Academic Affairs has reorganized to form a Student Success Team, coordinating the oversight, implementation and assessment of undergraduate and graduate programs and initiatives on campus.

Community Engagement
Community Engagement (CE) is the second of our three strategic priorities. According to the Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement: “[CE is] the collaboration between institutions of higher education and their larger communities (local, regional/state, national, global) for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity.”

CSULA’s GET/Common Management System (CMS) gets an upgrade
Since August 2010, campuses in the CSU have been undertaking an upgrade of the common management system. Here at CSULA, work on the GET upgrade has been ongoing since October 2010.
