Student Symposium on Research,
Scholarship and Creative Activity
The Annual Cal
State L.A. Student Symposium on Research, Scholarship and
Creative Activity is held each year to highlight student
accomplishments and to provide a local forum for our students to
gain experience in delivering presentations before an
audience. The event is sponsored by ORAD, the Office of
Research & Sponsored Programs, and The Honor Society of Phi
Kappa Phi.
The Symposium presentations are evaluated by judges, and 10
local winners will be selected to represent Cal State L.A. in
the Statewide CSU Student Research Competition, where they will
be eligible for cash prizes. Students can participate in
the University Symposium in two ways – by delivering a 10-minute
oral presentation or by exhibiting a poster presentation. The
subsequent statewide competition is limited to oral
presentations. Please note that poster presentations can be
conducted in ways appropriate for documenting the discipline,
such as video, recordings, slides, and CDs, as well as posters.
Previous winners have come from a cross-section of departments
representing all six colleges, and their topics have ranged from
projects in art, literary criticism, and history to descriptions
of scientific research, musical compositions, and curricular
innovations.
