The grants are designed
to increase the number of master’s degrees awarded to economically
disadvantaged CSU students, especially those students that are
underrepresented among graduate degree recipients in their
discipline and to those who are disabled. Grant stipends will
average $1,500 per quarter (Fall, Winter, Spring only) and may be
supplemented by additional financial aid packages (work/study
grants, assistantships, student loans, etc.)
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Applications will be
accepted from all students, however, students must be eligible
for financial aid based on California State University criteria.
The Office of Student Financial Services will determine the
amount of the fellowship (maximum $1500 per quarter) based on
the applicant’s demonstrated financial need.

Applicants must be
U.S. citizens and California residents.

Fellowship recipients
must meet full-time enrollment requirements. Graduate students
must carry a study load of 12 units of approved prerequisite,
corequisite, or graduate program courses.
You may be enrolled in either 12 units of a combination of 400
and 500 level courses, or eight units of 500 level courses. You
may also enroll in one or more units of (thesis/research)
courses numbered 597, 598, 599, 699 and 900.

Fellowship recipients
must be enrolled as classified or conditionally classified
graduate students and must maintain satisfactory academic
progress, which includes maintaining a minimum B (3.0) grade
point average.
SELECTION CRITERIA

Applicants are
evaluated on the basis of their academic record, (including
grades, course enrolled, honors, etc.); two faculty
recommendation letters and other information provided on the
application form.

Consideration is also
given to the degree of underrepresentation in the national pool
of graduate degree recipients in the applicant’s field.

Special consideration
is given to disabled applicants in all fields of study.
APPLICATIONS
Applicants must
complete two separate required applications:
-
A general academic
application which requires two recommendation letters from
faculty in the applicants academic department or division.

A Financial Aid
Application which requires that the applicant file a “Free
Application for Federal Student Aid” (FAFSA).
This application MUST be submitted annually.
The academic
application form can be obtained from the Office of Graduate
Studies and Research, Administration 710, (323) 343-3820 and must
be returned to the office no later than the posted deadline listed
above. The financial application (FAFSA) is available in the
Office of Financial Services, Student Affairs 124, (323) 343-1784
and must be mailed directly to the address indicated on the form.
