Block D: Social Sciences (8-12 units)
Students learn from courses in multiple block D disciplines that human social, political and economic institutions and behavior are inextricably interwoven. Through fulfillment of the block D requirement, students will develop an understanding of problems and issues from the respective disciplinary perspectives and will examine issues in their contemporary as well as historical settings and in a variety of cultural contexts. Students will explore the principles, methodologies, value systems and ethics employed in social scientific inquiry.
At Cal State LA, these ends are achieved by taking one course each from any three disciplines that address social science issues. An integrated course may be used as one of the three required courses. Students majoring in social science-based fields need to take two social science GE courses. If in doubt about your needs in this block, consult with an advisor.
