Jeff Cheam
Jeff Cheam currently holds the position of Director of Information Technology Consultants and Open Access Labs in the department of Educational Support Services.
Jeff received his A.A. degree in Business Accounting at El Camino College and B.S. degree in Quantitative Systems from California State University, Long Beach.
In 1984, Jeff joined the Information Services and Data Processing/Computer Center at CSLA as an Instructional Computing Consultant. His early duties included debugging computer programs and managing the only computing facility on campus. The department later became known as Academic Technology Support and his duties extended to servicing the campus community and managing university computer labs and shared computer classrooms.
In 1988 Jeff accepted the position as the ITC for the School of Engineering and Technology. His areas of specialization include user services, computer lab management, personal computers, workstations, operating systems, engineering and CAD/CAM applications. He was responsible for the school’s network project as the school was the first unit on campus to be totally networked. Jeff is still an active member of the CAPE (Computer Aided Productivity in Engineering) group and he represents the College at CAPE meetings. The CAPE group provides Engineering software and training to all educational programs in the CSU at the best possible price or for free.
In 2000, Jeff supervised a major move of E&T back into its new remodel building and set up and configured numerous computer classroom and facilities.
Jeff was recipient of the campus’s 1999 Outstanding Staff Award at the 25th Annual CSLA Staff Award.
