Turnitin for Faculty

Turnitin is an internet-based anti-plagiarism program. This technology can help instructors check students’ work for possible plagiarizing of other known sources.

However, receiving a high similarity rating of an originality report doesn’t necessarily mean the paper is plagiarized. Instructors need to be cautious since there are a number of perfectly legitimate reasons for a paper receiving a high similarity rating. For example, a properly cited paper with numerous references may show a high similarity.

Before creating a a user profile at http://www.turnitin.com, instructors must read the Recomendations for Faculty Using Turnitin.com at CSULA (html) (pdf). If you would like to use Turnitin.com in the manners recommended, please request the account id and account join pasword from eLPS.
