Associate Provost for Academic Affairs
The Office of the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs is part of the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Associate Provost, Dr. Cheryl L. Ney, reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Office has the primary responsibility for ensuring educational effectiveness, supporting student success and fostering the development of new academic programs as well as academic program modifications.
Activities in the educational effectiveness arena include oversight of the academic program review process, leadership for assessment of institutional learning outcomes and assistance for the accreditation of programs by Specialized/Professional Accrediting Organizations. The Associate Provost also serves as the Accreditation Liaison Officer to the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The Director of Program Review and Assessment, Dr. David Connors as well as the Director of the Office of Institutional Research, Dr. Mark Pavelchak, report to the Associate Provost.
In support of student success, the Office of Graduate Studies, and Research led by Dean Lawrence Fritz, and the Office of Undergraduate Studies, led by Dean Jun Xing, report to the Associate Provost. The Retention and Graduation Planning Group is chaired by the Associate Provost.
The Office of the Associate Provost coordinates the Five Year Academic Master Plan for new program development at the University, participates in campus-wide strategic planning efforts and serves as the clearing house for other program modifications that require external approval processes.
The Office of the Associate Provost provides support in working with other units of the campus to plan Honors Convocation and Commencement ceremonies.
