Assistant Professor of Chemistry, with focus on Analytical Chemistry

Starting Date:

August, 2020

Minimum Qualifications:

1) An earned doctorate in Analytical Chemistry or closely-related field from an accredited institution (or equivalent) is required; however, applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered.  For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (8/20/20). 
2) Evidence of scholarly engagement (e.g., publications, grants/contracts, disciplinary presentations) with an analytical chemistry focus.
3) Evidence of teaching effectiveness at the undergraduate level.

Preferred Qualifications:

1) Post-doctoral research experience.
2) Evidence of a research focus in spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and/or chemical separations.
3) Demonstrated experience and training in development and maintenance state-of-the-art analytical instrumentation.
4) Demonstrated experience mentoring undergraduate students in a research setting.
5) Evidence of teaching effectiveness at the graduate level.

Duties:

The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community.  These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.

Specific duties as a faculty member in the Cal State LA Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry include:

  1. Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in the area of expertise which may include, but not be limited to, Quantitative Analysis lecture and laboratory, Advanced Analytical Chemistry lecture and laboratory series, and General Chemistry lecture and laboratory.
  2. Participate in curriculum development which includes modification and improvement of existing courses and development of new courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The successful candidate will be expected to establish an independent research program which can be supported by external funding, disseminated through scholarly publications, and involve mentoring and training students at the undergraduate and Master’s levels.

Salary:

Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. An attractive start-up package is available to set up the laboratory.
