Teaching Associate

Starting Date:

Spring  2011, and continuing

Minimum Qualifications:

Degree-seeking graduate student in the Department of Physics and Astronomy to perform instruction.  Teaching associates must be registered in a CSU graduate degree program and must be enrolled in courses towards the completion of that graduate degree during the teaching associate appointment period.  Applicants should have the ability to relate well to others within the academic environment, have the potential for excellent teaching, and demonstrate ability and/or interest in working in a multiethnic, multicultural environment.

As a University dedicated to engagement, service and the public good, the successful candidate will be expected to join faculty, staff, students and administrators in a commitment to these purposes.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience as a graduate assistant or completion of faculty supervised training.


Under supervision of faculty, successful candidates will teach laboratory and activity classes associated with calculus and non-calculus based physics courses as well as laboratories associated with general education courses in both physics and astronomy.  They must hold office hours and will be responsible for correcting all assignments as well as submitting final grades.


Initial salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
